Microneedling

SKIN REJUVENATION

Skin rejuvenation

Skin rejuvenation or collagen induction therapy treatments such as microneedling, microchannelling, and dry tattooing resurface aging skin by comfortably creating thousands of microscopic channels through the skin tissue, promoting the formation of new, tighter and healthier dermal tissue.  The remarkable science behind these treatments involve exciting the fibroblasts in the skin to produce new collagen yielding smoother, younger looking skin.  These are  non-surgical, non-laser, natural and comfortable treatment for aging, compromised, and scarred skin with minimal down time, as opposed to more ablative treatments which require several days of recovery.  Science has shown that there is little added benefit to more aggressive treatments.

Skin rejuvenation treatments are great for plumping the skin tissue and restoring a youthful look while also helping to break down the fibrous matrix of scar tissue.  Skin rejuvenation treatments stimulate collagen and elastin proteins, produced by fibroblasts, without significant downtime for our clients. Our younger skin was complete with healthy collagen and elastic, but it deteriorates as we age.  These treatments bring it back.

As people begin to age, usually in their 40s, skin cell regeneration slows down and old skin cells build up causing skin to look dull, sagging and aged. Microneedling, microchannelling, and dry tattooing techniques cause the promotion of growth factors resulting in scarless healing and the recovery of normal woven collagen rather than scar collagen. The fibroblasts produce collagen and elastin giving your skin a much more youthful appearance. Fractional lasers available today are based on the same theory, controlled dermal wounds, fostering a healing process which leads to healthier skin tissue.  However, fractional lasers, as with other lasers, come with higher costs, more downtime and little scientific evidence that the greater damage leads to better results over microneedling, microchannelling, or dry tattooing.

Consider these procedures as processes which will require more than one session to achieve the optimal result of skin tightening and pigmentation.  If more aggressive med-spa or cosmetic surgery clinic lasers are what clients elect, these treatments are the ideal way to support any improvements.

Skin rejuvenation treatments such as microneedling, microchannelling, dry tattooing are excellent for wrinkles and skin laxity.  All treatments rely on the principle of introducing controlled injury to the skin tissue promoting healing and resulting healthier skin.  Dry tattooing treatments yield great results in re-establishing melanin.  Microchannelling treatments yield great results in lightening hyperpigmentation and stretchmarks.

Our clinic is proud to have recently added ProCell™ Microchannelling to this effective set of treatments.  ProCell™ is based on the same science as microneedling and dry tattooing.  It involves the introduction of stem cell serums which has been shown to yield additional improvements from each session.  Single session results, due to the introduction of the serum, as well as the micro-filaments attached to the highly specialized device can be outstanding, depending on the area of treatment.  Due to the higher cost of the clinic’s consumables, ProCell™ does carry a slightly higher price tag; however, it remains considerably lower than laser treatments.  ProCell™ is also highly effective as a scar revision treatment.

At Anna Burns Permanent Cosmetics we offer industry collagen induction therapy treatments through the use of machine needling techniques. As your Atlanta permanent cosmetics professional, our staff will help you decide which treatment is best for your needs depending on your concerns.

Microneedling

Microneedling uses minute needle-clusters attached to a specialized machine.  A clinician comfortably creates hundreds of tiny punctures in the skin’s epidermis layer promoting a cascade of healing responses that results in the production of new collagen and growth factors.  The result, often noticed in as little as a single treatment, is a visible improvement in the appearance of acne scars, chicken pox scars, and wrinkles. This anti-aging and skin resurfacing treatment is ideal for hard to reach areas of the face such as wrinkles around your nose and mouth (naso-labial folds) and crow’s feet.

What to expect after your microneedling procedure.

Depending on how deeply the needle enters the epidermis, you may be slightly to moderately swollen and red at the treated areas. Minor itching may occur and the ‘needled’ tissue may exhibit the appearance of redness which will lighten and disappear in 1-2 days for most clients. Bring a sun hat to assure maximum protection on the way home. You will need to treat this skin with utmost care to give yourself the best results. We recommend using SPF 25 or higher sunblock to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

BEFORE AND AFTER

Imagine having ageless skin. Microneedling is a great age reversing and preventive treatment for your face, decollate, and hands.

WE GET A TON OF QUESTIONS REGARDING MICRONEEDLING. READ ON.
WE’LL TRY TO ANSWER THEM FOR YOU.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment. It is for anyone who wishes to have healthy, young skin. It can be used to improve the appearance of acne scars.

Anyone who suffers from hemophilia, seizures and epilepsy, cold, flu, covid-19; has active acne, eczema, psoriasis, keloid scars on the area to be treated; women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone undergoing chemotherapy, who has a pacemaker or major heart problems, has immunodeficiency, organ transplant, is currently using or has been on Accutane for less than one year.

Depending on your tolerance level, microneedling may cause a slight discomfort, specially on the forehead where the skin tissue is thinner than the rest of the face.

Hydrating serum is effectively introduced to your skin tissue when needles break your skin barrier entering your dermis. This controlled injury causes a wound healing cascade with the release of various growth factors such as platelet derived growth factor (PGF), transforming growth factor alpha and beta (TGF-α and TGF-β), connective tissue activating protein, connective tissue growth factor, and fibroblast growth factor (FGF). The needles breakdown old hardened fibrous scar strands and allow new blood vessels to form in the damaged tissue.

The formation of new blood vessels and collagen is initiated by the stimulation of and rapid increase of fibroblast cells. This increase in fibroblasts stimulates the new formation of connective tissue fibers – elastic, collagen, reticular fibers (intercellular matrix). At 5 days treatment, new collagen is formed resulting in skin tightening that lasts for 5–7 years in the form of collagen III (reticular fiber). Reticular fibers play a supporting role in wound healing and scar tissue formation. New collagen fiber bundles replace parallel bundles in old fibrous scar tissue with normal lattice of bundles resulting in healthier skin tissue.

Microneedling’s benefit is having younger looking and healthier skin. It is a great age defying treatment. Skin treated with 4 microneedling sessions 1 month apart shows results with up to 400% increase in collagen and elasticity in the skin 6 months after with thicker epidermis 1 year after the series of 4 microneedling treatments.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive process. We introduce controlled injury at a shallow depth in your skin tissue and use the most technologically advanced methods and products to prevent new scar formation.

Although microneedling is a very safe procedure for all skin types, PIH can happen. After treatment, your skin will be photosensitive. It is important to be compliant with aftercare instructions to minimize PIH and photodamage.

Right after microneedling treatment, your skin will have a radiant red glow, a mildly sunburned look, similar to having spent a day at the beach. The redness and inflammation is usually gone the next day.

It is important to use sunblock consistently after treatment.

Most people do not need to take time from their employment. Microneedling is a lunchtime procedure that can be done in less than an hour.

Results can be seen as soon as after a single treatment or after completing the recommended minimum of three to five treatments. Everyone’s skin is different, therefore, when results can be seen varies from person to person. Depending on the frequency of your scar revision treatments, the more frequent and consistent you are with the treatments, the likelihood of seeing healthier, improved skin is higher.

The serums used are very safe and hypoallergenic. Allergic reactions are rare. However, if you have very sensitive skin, we recommend having a patch test done.

Microneedling, microchannelling, and dry tattooing have similar principles in how they all stimulate the skin to repair and renew itself. All three techniques are varying forms of collagen induction therapy. They all involve controlled injury to the skin by way of tiny needles to encourage new formation of collagen. The difference is in the applied techniques; products and equipment used; and aftercare.

Microneedling and microchannelling are skin rejuvenation treatments that plump up your skin – reducing wrinkles; and are effective in reducing acne scars.

Dry tattooing and microchannelling are scar revision treatments that improve hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation issues, burn scars, accident scars, injury scars and surgical scars.

Microchannelling is a great treatment for improving stretchmarks.

There is no downtime to begin your microneedling journey. You can come in for a consultation during your lunch or after your work.

Each session is less than 60 minutes.

Microneedling costs $500 a session. Inquire about our packages and member rewards pricing.

We recommend scheduling a treatment every four weeks.

Procedures are done under strict sterile standards in keeping with those set by the Centers for Disease Control. We use sterile disposable supplies.

Any time the skin is open there is potential for an infection. The treated area must be kept clean. There are usually no major complications. To prevent infection during the procedure, we use: Pre-sterilized disposable for each new client and each new procedure on each client. New wipes, gauze, cotton and swabs, new gloves, new barrier film, new equipment barrier control bags between clients and throughout the procedure. Hospital grade disinfectant cleaners and medical sterilization procedures that kill microorganisms like HIV, Hepatitis A, B, and C, MRSA, Staph, Tuberculosis for all equipment and working surfaces are used.

All contaminated needles are disposed of in a recognizable sharps container.

Avoid applying Retin A 24 hours prior to your procedure appointment. Hydrate and drink plenty of fluids starting 24 hours and up to the day of your procedure.

If your skin tone is darker and prone to hyperpigmentation, we recommend for you to begin using a skin brightener consistently six weeks prior to your first treatment.
