What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup is cosmetic tattooing that results in beautiful, natural-looking results. The specialized techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as “micro pigmentation.” It is implanting pigment into the dermis layer of the skin with a special machine designed for medical tattoo work. The process includes a consultation, an initial session, and a perfecting session. Contact us to get started today!

Permanent Makeup Questions Answered

Who Gets Permanent Makeup?

The benefits of permanent cosmetics can be very liberating. Permanent Makeup and Tattooing can be especially valuable to people who have allergies and skin sensitivities to makeup; athletic people who want their makeup to stand up to a workout and busy people who don’t have time to fuss with their makeup. It is very convenient to wake up with makeup already perfectly applied. People who experience thinning of the brows or alopecia enjoy the results of permanent makeup. When a person’s vision is challenged they often will have difficulty applying their cosmetics. Other people may decide to use micro pigmentation who experience limitations due to health-related reasons like arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. Breast cancer survivors can have 3-dimensional areola re-pigmentation that is beautiful and natural. Our passion is to make many breast cancer survivors feel whole again.

Types of Permanent Makeup

Permanent Cosmetic procedures can be very subtle or dramatic depending on what you are looking for.

The options at our Atlanta Permanent Cosmetics Office include:

How painful is it?

Most people experience very little discomfort but this can vary depending on each individual’s pain threshold. Topical anesthetics that are specifically developed for our industry are highly effective. Your permanent cosmetic professional should discuss these methods with you to determine which one is appropriate. Traditional tattoo professionals do not use anesthetics for their tattoo procedures. Anesthetics for permanent cosmetics however, are used because of the sensitive location of the tattoo and as an extra luxury of the beauty treatment. Contact us for a consultation and I’ll make sure to ease and explain any questions or concerns you may have.

Are Permanent Cosmetics Really Permanent?

Permanent cosmetics procedures are considered permanent because the pigment is tattooed on and inside the skin. It will never wash off. However, as with any tattoo, fading can and often does occur, requiring periodic maintenance. Pigment implanted in the skin may fade with time but the longevity varies from person to person depending on sun exposure, genetic, and topical products applied to the skin.

The duration of PERMANENT MAKEUP can be lengthened by avoiding the use of glycolic acids, exfoliates and antioxidants found in many beauty products. I see many of our clients every couple of years, so we’d love to be your PERMANENT MAKEUP provider for many years to come!

What am I to Expect After a Procedure?

Some people swell more than others but the swelling should disappear after about 3-5 days. Bruising is rare but again, especially if a person is on blood thinners, bruising could occur. If bruising does occur, typically it is minor and subsides in a few days. There is usually some tenderness for a few days.

Immediately following the procedure, the color is much darker than you may expect for the first six to ten days. It is recommended to plan your sessions around any special events or vacations. The perfecting session can be scheduled 4-6 weeks after your initial visit.
